First, do nothing for ten minutes

Your nervous system may treat the notification like proof, danger, or hope. Waiting gives you a chance to respond from choice instead of adrenaline.

Decide what kind of message it is

  • Necessary: logistics, bills, children, belongings, safety.
  • Emotional: missing you, blame, nostalgia, "just checking in."
  • Ambiguous: memes, late-night hey, social media reactions.

If you reply

Keep it short, factual, and closed. Do not explain your healing process in a moment when you feel pulled back in. If it is not necessary, you are allowed not to answer.

If you feel shaken

Log the trigger in your tracker and write the reply you are not sending. If you replied and regret it, use the broke no contact reset guide.
